Yamato Koriyama Castle
Yamato Koriyama Castle is a famous castle of the Warring States and Edo periods located in Yamato Koriyama City, Nara Prefecture.
In 1585, Toyotomi Hideyoshi placed his younger brother Hidenaga in this area. Hidenaga expanded Koriyama Castle into a large castle worthy of being the base of Yamato Province, and it developed as the political, economic, and cultural center of Yamato.
In the Edo period (1603-1867), the Koriyama clan was replaced and ruled by various feudal lords, but ultimately the Yanagisawa clan remained as the lord of the clan from the 18th century onward, and the castle flourished as the center of culture and politics as an early modern feudal lord.
Although the castle tower does not exist today, the stonewalls of the keep’s tower tower still preserve the majestic appearance of bygone days.
In particular, the stonewalls made of huge stones from the era of Toyotomi Hidenaga are a sight to behold and of high technical value.
