Nostalgic Western-style building

全国の城や神社仏閣を巡っていると、時々、明治から大正にかけて建てられた洋館に出くわすことがある。西洋建築を見習い日本の大工が工夫を凝らしながら建てた洋館である。当時の職人たちはどんな思いでこれらを建設したのかと色々想像しながらシャッターを切った。繊細で丁寧に仕上げられた姿を今でも目にすることができることは喜ばしいことだ。

When touring castles and shrines and temples around the country, you sometimes come across Western-style buildings built from the Meiji to Taisho eras. These Western-style buildings were built by Japanese carpenters who imitated Western architecture and put a lot of effort into their construction. I took the picture while imagining what the craftsmen of the time were thinking when they built these buildings. It is a pleasure to be able to see these delicate and carefully finished buildings even today.
