清水寺

Kiyomizu Temple

清水寺は、京都の東山に位置する京都を代表する寺院で、794年に創建された日本有数の観光地です。
山の斜面に建てられた「清水の舞台」は、釘を使わずに作られた木造建築で、四季折々の自然と調和した壮観な景色が楽しめる。
ちなみに、清水の舞台からの飛び降り者数は、江戸時代1694年から1864年の間、約234件の飛び降りが記録があり、そのうちの生存率は85%近くであるという。
仏のご加護があってか、案外目的は達せられない場所のようだ。

Kiyomizu-dera Temple, located in Higashiyama, Kyoto, is one of Kyoto’s most famous temples. Founded in 794, it is one of Japan’s leading tourist destinations. Built on the slope of the mountain, Kiyomizu-dera Stage is a wooden structure made without the use of nails, and offers spectacular views that harmonize with the nature of the four seasons. By the way, there are records of approximately 234 cases of people jumping off Kiyomizu-dera Stage between 1694 and 1864 during the Edo period, with a survival rate of nearly 85%. Perhaps due to the Buddha’s blessing, it seems like a place where it is surprisingly difficult to achieve your goal.
